Open Thread: The 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards
Yes, it's time for the big show itself! Let's see if the real Emmy voters have any overlap with the Serial Drama faux Emmy voters, who think that the following people deserve to go home with an award tonight:
Outstanding Younger Actor: Blake Berris
Outstanding Younger Actress: Kirsten Storms
Outstanding Supporting Actor: Jeff Branson
Outstanding Supporting Actress: Alicia Minshew
Outstanding Lead Actor: Peter Reckell
Outstanding Lead Actress: Debbi Morgan
You all have obviously been burned before, because the only time you thought the most deserving actor would actually wind up winning was in the case of Kirsten Storms!
Come on in and join us for a blow-by-blow discussion of daytime's biggest night (related: who here misses the Soap Opera Digest Awards?), hosted by Vanessa L. Williams and featuring the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to Sesame Street, which thrills us both so much that we have nary a snarky comment to make. We'll be updating the list of winners, after the jump!
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR: TIE! VINCENT IRIZARRY (DAVID, AMC) and JEFF BRANSON (SHANE, GL)
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS: JULIE BERMAN (LULU, GH)
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS: TAMARA BRAUN (AVA, DAYS)
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR: DARIN BROOKS (MAX, DAYS)
OUTSTANDING WRITING: UNTALENTED HACKISH BASTARDS GENERAL HOSPITAL
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS: SUSAN HASKELL (MARTY, OLTL)
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR: CHRISTIAN LEBLANC (MICHAEL, Y&R)
OUTSTANDING DAYTIME DRAMA: THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL

Wow, it's dead around here, but that was an actual opening number and it was decent. It was cheesy sure, but Vanessa went for it.

Awww. Vincent I has a son serving overseas? His speech was great, I hate that he shouted out Pratt, but very classy for thanking Jacob Y. and David C. by name.
Also, Branson is a great talent.

The amount of ties that the Daytime Emmys has always confuses me, but I am stoked that Jeff Branson won/tied.
Vanessa really did give it her all, didn't she? She's adorable.

Thank God Bradford Anderson didn't win. I like the actor but him winning would ensure more use of Spinelli.

Wow! That carnival promo wasn't just a stupid theme--the drama takes place in a carnival?! Lame. I wonder what Pratt will come up with to top Guza's latest stunt? He's got a "great" foundation with the Kendall Panic room crap.

Hate David, but Vincent's great. Good for him, and for Branson!

Well, that's a promising start! People winning awards and actually deserving them - how novel!
I am disturbed by Jacob Young's lack of hair though.

ande mcbeal, I didn't know about VI's son, either! I actually didn't know he had an older son, or how old he was. Tonight is very educational, in its own way.

I almost used wow again, but I love Heather Tom's dress. She looks great! Ronn Moss has got to, for the sake of lambs and llamas, put down the scarves!
I love Cash Cab!!!!

Spinelli AND Bindi Irwin? That is a match made in the mind of a heinous, disturbed producer...
Posted by: Mallory | August 30, 2009 at 08:19 PM
Mallory, I don't want to jinx it, but I could learn that this show doesn't have to suck.

Spoke to soon, Kirsten Storm looks like a mentally challenged color blind dude styled her. Horrible
Posted by: ande mcbeal | August 30, 2009 at 08:20 PM
Okay, Kirsten Storms' dress looks kind of like she took one of those crappy cheap leis and just looped it over her shoulder.
Posted by: Suzanne | August 30, 2009 at 08:22 PM
Okay, two dresses in a row with that gauzy bit of fluff at the shoulder. Was there a sale?
Posted by: ande mcbeal | August 30, 2009 at 08:23 PM
Hee! I was just thinking to myself that Kirsten Storms should be really concerned that she and Kim Zimmer went the same route.
Posted by: Mallory | August 30, 2009 at 08:23 PM
If Kirsten Storms wins and she has to go out to greet Zimmer, I wonder if their giant silkworm cocoons will seek to combine?

Julie looks dreadful. Poor thing.
Posted by: Louise | August 30, 2009 at 08:24 PM
Seriously? Lulu sucked serious ass last year, and that dress doesn't fit girlfriend. Skeleton is not a good look.

WTH CW? Cut to commercial during an emmy acceptence speech? well, this IS the CW
Posted by: Lauren | August 30, 2009 at 08:25 PM
Aw, JMB's hair and makeup makes her look so much like Genie Francis.
Posted by: Suzanne | August 30, 2009 at 08:26 PM
Does Julie's win mean we'll be forced to endure more annoying Lulu screen time than usual.
Posted by: Steph | August 30, 2009 at 08:27 PM
I really did enjoy JMB's reel this year, but I kind of consider this to be a makeup from the last time she was nominated and lost to Jennifer "Emmy Machine" Landon.
Posted by: Mallory | August 30, 2009 at 08:27 PM
Wow...JMB...really????
Posted by: Tara | August 30, 2009 at 08:28 PM
SuzanneThe makeup sure, but that hair? Not so much. That hair makes Julie look like she's doing product placement for Bumpits.

Agree with Mallory. This was a make up win I think. When will Storms get her make up win? Her scenes at Georgie's funeral deserve an Emmy.
Since I'm on this tangent already, when is Laura Wright's nomination (forget win)? I'm not a huge fan of Carly (lately she hasn't been that bad) but LW is made of awesome.
