Whistling Dixie (In a Tone Of Your Choosing)

So, Dixie is back.

Well, she's not back in Pine Valley yet; she's in a mysterious location on a cot, having flashbacks to adventures she had with Tad and their family. But she's back on the show and this return could not have come at a more inopportune time because:

Tadcara
OHMIGOD, HOLY CUTENESS! I mean, I know that this isn't a happy moment for both parts of this couple, since Cara, for whatever reason, continues to have it bad for Jake, but I can't help it! Michael E. Knight and Lindsay Hartley sparkle together like crazy and watching these two fall in love for real has been a pipe dream of mine for months and Tad is falling for her and it warms my heart and WHY CAN'T I HAVE NICE THINGS?!

That's not to say I'm not intrigued by how they are going to bring Dixie back. I am! I am just...nervous. I actually worried about this in my upcoming Soap Opera Digest column, so keep an eye out for that, but really: not only is this ruining my favorite non-romance on the show (which, I know, is selfish. And there simply isn't enough time left with AMC for the writers to really do them justice, which is sad. And it would be nice to see Tad and Dixie finally have a happy ending), but historically, the writers' choices for writing Dixie off of the show and bringing her back have been, um, horrendous. What half-assed story are they going to come up with now, with only a couple of months to tell it? And how pissed is JR going to be when he finds out that it wasn't actually his mother who counseled him in heaven when he had cancer, but a stranger angel instead?!

Comments

I do agree about Michael and Lindsay who have such great chemistry. I think Cara cares about Tad but she still has feelings for Jake although I have no idea why since Tad is way more awesome than Jake.

This kind of reminds me of Passions. Sheridan's mother supposedly died so when she was buried alive she had a visit from her dead mother only to have it later revealed that she just took off with the housekeeper's husband. It seems to be the season for people coming back from the dead on ABC.

I agree that Tad has had more of spring in his step these days, and Cara is the reason. And, at first, I liked her. But lately all of her hyperactivity and her continual screeching has lessened her appeal for me. IF Dixie wasn't coming back, then Cara and Tad would be .... okay. But now, this will give Tad new life as much as it does Dixie. And I don't care what the backstory is, just getting her back is enough to make me feel more kindly to my one time, favorite and only soap.

I hate Frons.

Love Tad/Cara. However, I smell a happy ending reunion in the works for Tad/Dixie. Bout time, they've been promising Tad a storyline for the last, what, ten years? Though I would guess poisoned pancakes would give one a long term hangover and hallucinations. God, that was so 1990s LOVING. And that was one of my faves.

My one wish for the end of AMC was NO MORE DIXIE. I hate her with the white-hot heat of a thousand suns. Damnit.

Try to look at it this way, Minirth. Dixie has been gone for quite a while, so those have been good days for you. BUT, the show has been infested with Laveryitis, a dreadful disease resulting in clusters of Clown Noses and bunched thongs, replete with squinting, spitting, and a grating IAMTHATMONSTER monotone. And that has been a steady diet for more than 10 years. Dixie's return will be brief, since the show's life (unless a miracle happens), so your pain won't last too long.

But the pain of Laveryitis, that lasts a lifetime.

I am also in the camp where Tad/Cara would have been adorable...if our show was ending. I might be biased since Tad/Dixie was the first soap couple I ever watched (at age 6) and the idea of them ending together HAPPILY with the show ending makes my heart sing.

As someone who lost two of the soaps that held a soft spot in my heart already (RIP ATWT & GL) while they were still inundated with newbies (with storylines mind you!) I am looking forward to the possiblity of one soap doing it right & having characters that I grew up with back on my screen at the end.

The end...God, that still makes me so angry! *sends up another body boiling curse to Frons*
