Hell, No

Remember when they announced that there would be a General Hospital spinoff and I was all, "Why do they need a spinoff? What the hell?"? And remember when they said that Robin and Patrick would be the centerpiece of this new show and I attempted to say something like "With a winning couple and talented leads at the forefront of this show, I am cautiously optimistic" but it came out more like "EEEEEEE! Scrubs! Jason Thompson! Kimberly McCullough! Stars! More screentime! Cupcakes and sparkles and kittens! EEEEEEEEEE!"

I should always trust my first instinct.

According to TV Guide, this is the cast of the show (not listed: Billy Dee Williams [?!?! --ed.]):

Steve Burton (Jason Morgan)• Kimberly McCullough (Robin Scorpio)• Jason Thompson (Patrick Drake)• Kirsten Storms (Maxie Jones)• Julie Marie Berman (Lulu Spencer)• Natalia Livingston (Emily Quartermaine)• Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Spencer)• Kent King (Lainey Winters)• Jason Gerhardt (Coop Barrett)• Josh Duhon (Logan Hayes)• Lindze Letherman (Georgie Jones)• Kiko Ellsworth (Stan Johnson)• Sonya Eddy (Epiphany Johnson)• Minae Noji (Kelly Lee)• Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli)• Adrian Alvarado (Cruz Rodriquez)• Derk Cheetwood (Max Giambetti)• Richard Gant (Russell Ford)• Wendy Braun (Ms. Sneed)

WHY THE HELL IS STEVE BURTON ON THIS SHOW? WHY?! TELL ME WHY!

I know that they are wading into unfamiliar territory with the whole newfangled hospital setting that they have going on here that doesn't exist on the mothership, so I can see why they'd want to cling onto something that they know and love but for the love of Courtney's snowglobe, there is no reason that a person should be on every single episode of a show that airs five days a week, 52 weeks a year and then appear on the spinoff of that show. No earthly reason. Unless this is all a ploy for ABC Daytime and the GH brass to drive me to an asylum. If it is, that's fine. I'm not offended. But don't take innocent people down in your attempt to drive me crazy! It's not right!

Oh that is so, so wrong. The only way I can get on board with this is if Jason is in the hospital because he's in a persistent coma.

Plus, Epiphany and Dr. Ford?! I thought this spin-off was supposed to appeal to young people. On behalf of all young[ish] people, I object.

I guess there's got to be something for the young people to rail against.

Also, Max? Huh.

That being said, in the triumpherate of 'they ate my show' I'd take Jason over a Sonny/Carly combo any day of the week. Especially if they cut his hair.

When is this thing airing again?

What was noted on the Scrubs board that the cast list is just a list of current GH actors that will make appearances on the spinoff.

What is beyond me is that they don't mention that Kimberly McCullough and the hotness that is Jason Thompson are leading the show. Why muddle it up with Jaysus of all people?!?

I am also thankful that Sonny/Carly are left out. If only the mothership, as you called it, would follow suit.

My understanding was that Night Shift would be a sort of short-term Port Charles in that it'd be a spin-off with some crossover, but also a whole bunch of new people. So, hopefully, Sarah's right about it just being a list of people who'll pop up, because what in hell is the sense of just throwing the same old people on at night? There I go, though, expecting sense from GH...

As bad as Jason is, we do have to look forward to... BILLY DEE WILLIAMS!

Maybe he Robin and Patrick can have some Colt 45! I'm sorry, but this development has me super excited.

Is it just too obvious to suggest that GH just cut one-half of the repetitive Sonny/Carly/Jax and JaSam or Liason scenes and then give that half hour every day to the characters that will be featured on the spin-off?

Is it just too obvious to ask why a show called General Hospital needs a spin-off to feature the hospital and the non-mob characters that are *gasp* doctors and nurses?

I know, I know. I just refuse to be properly trained by Frons & Co.

If anyone should spin off, it should be the mobulars - Sonny, Carly, Jason, Sam, MyKill, MoreGun, etc. Maybe then the show called "General Hospital" can go back to being about a hospital.
