Can Hair and Makeup Go On Strike Too?

I know General Hospital likes to "go big" during sweeps, but my god, I've never seen a more concentrated collection of huge hair -- and I went to formals in the 80s, and have been to New Jersey.

Carly's is huge and tacky, but it's not entirely out of character.

It's not like she's otherwise the picture of fashionable refinement, so I could have lived with it if it were just her.

But it was EVERYONE!  Honestly, it was like GH had a side-deal with Aqua-Net and Falls-apalooza (coming to a strip mall near you!).

Poor, poor Robin.  She broke up with the formerly uber-hot Patrick, lost her damn mind and started running around asking every guy she knows and the pretzel vendor on the corner for sperm, and now this.

The bun is larger than her entire head, and is that a spit-curl?!

I have created my own backstory in which Alexis, true to her Cassadine roots, is storing weaponry in her 'do in case any of her many examples of poor man-judgment, including Jerry, gets out of line.

Emily's hair had been looking so lovely, but they had to eff it up!  Bastards.  It wouldn't surprise me if that one spot of uber-aggressive backcombing sets Nik off on one of his rages.

Hairemily

Why does this show hate the adorable Lindze Letherman?  Why?

Lulu's doesn't look that bad

Hairlulu

until you get a sense of scale

Maxie's also isn't bad from the front

Hairmaxie

but the back makes me want to run a brush through it.

Hairmaxie2

This is just plain unflattering.

Hairnadine

But, saving the best for last, when by "best" I mean "most likely to cause a neck-injury," it's poor otherwise-irrelevant Skye.

The worst part is, since this sweeps stunt is going to make a few hours stretch out over weeks, we can't even be relieved that at least in a day or two we'll have some good-hair peace.  It's like the horror of Jason's hair times ten people (though with significantly less product).

For those wondering, yes, I do think the hairstyles are more important than any of the "substance" on the show.  Nonetheless, in honor of sweeps and a couple of awesomely awful CGI moments, I will at least temporarily reinstate the GH Week in Review.  Watch this space.

You MUST discuss the awful CGI moments! The blinding rainstorm coming from a partly cloudy sky! Windemere looking like Dracula's castle!

And I have to say, at the risk of being mocked, that I am actually enjoying the epic level of cheese. If only it was the exception and not the rule these days.

The hair has been absolutely horrible. But my favorite part of the "ball" has been the awesomely bad dancing. You really can't blame the people of Port Charles. Who has a dance these days and asks everyone to do the waltz? I expected the 18th century music to end after the first dance by the host and hostess, but no, every tune is a waltz. And here's the really unbelievable part.....the men are attempting to dance. As a person who has, in vain, waited for men to dance to a tune which only asked them to swing their arms from side to side, I can safely say no man is going to attempt a waltz.

Oh, yeah, I definitely believe everyone was having a great time before the murders began!!!

Yes, it's really Skye's hair that scares the crap out of me. Plus you forgot to add Elizabeth's lop-sided do which looked like she'd already been through several hours of finding dead bodies and cat-fighting with Sam before she even got there.

I am liking the B & W Ball. The rainstorm and Jason's rush to the castle was major cheesefest to the level of Warner Bros. cartoons, but still the ball has been keeping my attention.

I agree with your hair comments to a point. I liked Carly's wavy look. It was really pretty for the occasion. Other than that, I pretty much agree with the rest of your summations.

I really loved Sam's hair after the fight. It had this cool, wavy look to it. I also like Maxie's hair and dress. Kate's was "okay" and Leyla's wasn't too bad.

You really must start watching and commenting on content. Jason and Sonny are both at Wyndemere and now the show will only be about how they save the day, and all the other players are fodder for Guza's killing. I mean, your humor is needed at times like these.

v(^__^)/ ...cheese

That first screencap of Carly makes her look more like she's a finalist on Rock of Love than a guest at a formal ball. Perhaps she purposely did her hair like that so she can set up her probably insanity defense when she shoots someone.

Oh, you HAVE to include Liz's hair on this list. In fact, let me give you a screencap to work with...

I think it kinda speaks for itself, but I know you clever ladies can work with it!

I'm so sorry, I put the wrong link on my last post. Well, that one's kinda hideous too, but I think this one really brings out the essence...

Enjoy!

Carly's hair and makeup are the scariest things I've ever seen. She looks like she's going to a Halloween party as Medusa. I think Robin looks good from the front.

Also, did I miss it, was there actually some reason to invite Jerry and actually Carly and Jax and Ric and Maxie and Spinelli? Is it like a rule that when you give a party you have to invite everyone in town regardless of whether you and your relatives hate them, don't even know them, or they recently tried to kill you?

Kelly and Greg had an event in NY today. She revealed a fun fact: She said she hated the way her hair looked in the beginning of sweeps, so she told Becky, that during their fight, to grab her hair in the back and pull some of the bobby pins out so she could wear her hair down, lol.

those were some bad hair. Poor GH women :(

This show is all about making Jason look good by comparison and this is what is necessary to make his particular follicular issues seem not so bad.

Jerry came to the ball with Alexis.
I have no idea why Carly was even invited... or Sonny... but Jax came along with her.
Ric is with Skye, who is Emily's sister.
Maxie worked in the hospital so I guess she became close to Emily? Even if she was tongue wrestling with Lucky during those days. I think Maxie was there because it's an honor to Alan.
Spinelli is there because Nikolas and Emily are thanking him for what he did to the Metro Court crisis thing (you know, saving Lulu's life by giving the code and all that)

BTW, most of the women's hair are bad. But I love their gowns.

Oh, Spinelli is Lulu's bestfriend. I think that's what got him the invitation.

Most of those styles still aren't reaching '80s levels just yet. For example, there's
this vintage footage from 1984 of Megan Hathaway
.

What I want to know is HOW they got Laura Wright's hair to do that!? Are there pulleys and winches in there? If I could get a tiny fraction of that height, I'd be a happy woman.

I like Kate's early '30s look. I didn't even take in the full glory of Sky's hair until your screen caps. Yowza!!

Love many of the comments here, too:
That picture of Liz's hair is hilarious! Agreed: the dancing is a major WTF, not only because it's so bad (I love the ringers they brought in to dance!). Of course it's nutty that all these people would be invited to the party; the nurse's ball made more sense as a place where everyone in town was likely to be, some working behind the scenes, some performing, others as donors, etc. But now--oy. When Jerry pulled a gun to protect everyone from being skewered, why oh why didn't ANY say, "Hey, Jer. How's it feel to be trapped and threatened with death by a deranged criminal?"

Can't wait for your week in review!

You've made me afraid to watch the Soapnet repeats. Besides, I'd only watch to see what everyone's wearing, so there you go.

NLG has tan lines. So apparently the make-up artists left early for the writers' strike.

They costumed Lindze Letherman as a frump. If this was a 1962 soap, Georgie would be the faithful friend type who serves coffee all the time and asks the pretty girl what's wrong...oh wait.....

This doesn't happen often, and it pains me when it does, but I have to disagree with you, Becca. I actually think Robin looks fabulous. And I ADORE Skye's architectural monstrosity, mostly because it makes her look like she actually just came from Truman Capote's Black & White Ball. It's very Babe Paley.

I actually LOVED Carlys hair at the black and white ball everyone eleses hair sucked especially Robins.
